Cardenas Music School opened its doors in 2022 and has since provided quality music instruction to the island of Oahu. Located in Honolulu, the school sits in a convenient location that is equidistant from Punahou, Iolani, Mid-Pacific institute, Maryknoll, St. Louis, La Pietra, and many more.
We firmly believe that all students have limitless potential that can be brought out through quality instruction, a motivational and safe environment, and practice. The team at Cardenas Music School aims at cultivating the next generation of Oahu’s most talented musicians whilst keeping a fun spirited and family oriented atmosphere.
Cardenas Music School offers instruction in Guitar, Ukulele, Voice, Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello. All skill levels are welcome and students have access to teachers who perform many genres of music that span from classical, jazz, rock, blues, and much more.

Aaron Cardenas and Marissa Rohlfing opened the school with hopes of creating an educational resource on par with the nations best pre-conservatory establishments.
What started as a guitar school is now a full blown music school with several teachers and different instruments. Though expansion may be a cause for concern for a thinning of quality, Aaron and Marissa have gone through great lengths to assure that the quality of instruction does not deviate or fall short of perfection and excellence.
Cardenas Music School is located in a choice spot that is close to many of the islands best private schools. We are right down the street from Punahou, Iolani. Mid-Pacific Institute, and much more!

The school itself sits right above Nijiya Market in Pucks Alley, and with three levels of parking you will never have to fight for a spot in the parking lot.

We offer guitar methods that have proven results, but that are flexible and accommodate each student’s personal interests because we recognize that the lessons and training are more effective if the student is playing songs that are interesting and relevant to them. We can do classical training if that’s what you want, but we offer much more than just classical lessons and we try to structure our teaching methods to not limit students to specific styles, but that result in well rounded musicians that are versatile and can someday have the skills and confidence to not only just learn song after song, but to create music and to be an expressive music artist. With at least some daily practice, goals are easy to attain and weekly assignments are made very clear about what to do and how to practice. Guitar lessons can be taught in both German and English. As a student progresses through the levels, they will gain proficiency and music literacy through study of technique, scales, music theory, ear training, rhythm, improvisation and learning to read music charts, mainly tablature at first, but depending on the student’s goals and amount of practice that they are doing could possibly include learning how to read music notation. Our instructors are very well qualified and experienced and make use of modern methods and technology, multimedia, digital music resources, YouTube and other online resources to make lessons engaging and to make sure that students’ have adequate resources for practicing at home. As student’s attain more proficiency and confidence, they are encouraged to pursue their own musical interests and our teaching methods do not limit students to particular styles of music and we will help students to pursue their own goals and learn songs that they are interested in. Students should be at least 6 years old to start lessons although you can always do a trial lesson just to see how it goes. No previous experience is necessary to begin lessons. At the recommendation of a work friend, I reached out to Landon at Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop. I had always had an interest in learning how to play an instrument, but thought I was way too old to start. But, after talking to Landon, next thing I knew, I had enrolled not only my husband, but my 14 year old son and myself in a group family lesson. I do not know if I ever would have had the courage to do this without Landon's approachability and his group lesson option. When COVID hit, Landon was already was teaching online and we were able to pivot without any delays and when we moved from Hawaii to California in May 2021, we continued with the guitar lessons online and kept learning, playing and improving. Landon accommodates our frequent schedule changes and keeps us on track. My son is now playing very well, and has moved to the electric guitar lessons. He went from being embarrassed at his guitar playing, to the teenager playing songs for his friends. It not only increased his self-confidence, but expanded on his way of thinking. As for myself, a middle aged working mother, I have to say, I am thrilled to say I play the acoustic guitar now. All of this is in large part due to Landon's supportive, patient and gifted instruction. My son and I continue with lessons to this day. Landon can take you from total beginner to a true musician. We are living proof.
I started my journey with voice lessons and singing improvement eight months ago from a place of severe anxiety and unsteady foundations. I could never have imagined singing intentionally for one person alone in a sound proof room, let alone a crowd of people, but that’s where I started: in a sound proof room in front of one person. That person was Mel Kay, a brilliant music teacher in both talent and attitude. She is patient and kind, skilled at her art and inspiring that of others, and is versatile in her directions and ideas for growth. In a short time, I found myself moving from a feeling of trepidation to one of excitement before lessons because of her warm approach to teaching, and six months later I was performing on stage at a local bar! I just returned from a trip abroad where I played at a concert for about a hundred onlookers, successfully, which I never would have dreamed could be a reality I actually enjoyed living through. Though I put in the work, the only reason I was able to accomplish this dream is due to Mel’s tutelage. I could not give a stronger recommendation for a vocal coach to someone needing help on their journey through music. Thanks Mel!

I've taken guitar lessons from many teachers but Landon is one of my favorites. His approach has always been creative and I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. He can teach both adults and kids and seems to be able to connect with anyone. He's always been encouraging while pushing me to do even more.
