Quality product!In unserem E-Gitarren-Recording Special haben wir von insgesamt 51 Mikrofonen Audiobeispiele vor dem Amp gesammelt und miteinander verglichen. Darunter auch drei Modelle der Berliner Traditionsfirma Beyerdynamic – die beiden dynamischen Mics M88 und M201, sowie den Klassiker unter den Bändchen-Mikrofonen, das M160.
Die beiden dynamischen Mikros M88 und M201 liegen klanglich sehr nah beieinander – ich musste mich stark anstrengen, um überhaupt einen Unterschied ausmachen zu können. Nach einigen Malen wechselseitigen Vergleichens empfinde ich das M88 als etwas “kräftiger” im unteren Frequenzbereich, wohingegen das M201 insgesamt ausgeglichener scheint.
Wenn man sich nun den Klang des Bändchens zu Gemüte führt, erkennt man schnell, weshalb der gute Eddie Kramer für jede seiner Hendrix Aufnahmen dieses Mikrofon verwendet hat: Es klingt einfach absolut brillant, definiter und hat mehr Biss als die beiden Konkurrenten.

Anderes Genre aber fast das selbe Ergebnis – die beiden dynamischen Mikrofone haben klanglich recht viel Druck, das M201 scheint in den Höhen klarer im Vergleich. Im ersten Moment scheint das M160 im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen Mikrofonen etwas dünner, doch bei genauerem Hinhören scheint auch hier schlicht mehr Information übertragen zu werden.
Im Studio würde ich mich für Rock bis Metal Sounds, wie sie hier aus dem Marshall kommen, für eine Kombination aus M160 und M88 aussprechen – das M88 für den Druck und das M160 für den Biss.

Und so erleben dynamische Schallwandler eine Renaissance, da sie einen trockeneren Sound mit weniger Störgeräuschen durch Lüfter und Straßenlärm versprechen. Trotzdem wünscht man sich natürlich hohe Klangqualität. Solch hochwertige dynamische Mikros baut seit jeher der Heilbronner Hersteller Beyerdynamic. Drei Klassiker aus dem Lieferprogramm haben wir uns näher angeschaut.
Beständigkeit ist eine weithin unterschätzte Tugend. Als 1963 Queen Elisabeth II Australien besuchte, gab es nur ein Mikrofon, das man ihrer Hoheit würdig erachtete: das M88 von Beyerdynamic, das ein Jahr zuvor vorgestellt wurde. Queen Elizabeth II ist noch immer im Amt, und das M88 kann man bis heute käuflich erwerben. Das M160 ist sogar noch etwas älter; es wurde bereits Ende der 1950er eingeführt. Somit ist das M201 das jüngste Modell in diesem Testreigen; eine genaue Datierung konnte ich nicht ermitteln, aber es muss irgendwann Mitte der 70er zur Welt gekommen sein. Damit sind alle unsere heutigen Testkandidaten älter als fast alles, was der Markt sonst zu bieten hat. Spoiler Alert: So lange kann sich kein Produkt behaupten, wenn es nicht gut wäre!
Microphones, Part 1: A Guide To Dynamic Mics
Alle drei Mikros, die uns zum Test erreichten, kommen in schwarzen Pappkartons inklusive Etui, Stativklemme, gedruckter Anleitung und – ungewöhnlich für Produkte dieser Preisklasse – einem individuellen Messprotokoll mit Empfindlichkeit und Frequenzgang! Die Mikrofone selbst wirken wie aus dem Ei gepellt; ihr satiniertes Finish in Schwarz ist absolut makellos. Auch die haptische Anmutung macht einen sehr hochwertigen Eindruck. Das ist »Made in Germany«, wie man es sich vorstellt, leider aber immer seltener bekommt. Umso erstaunlicher sind die günstigen Preise: Das M201 TG kostet im Handel rund 200 Euro, das M88 ist ab 279 Euro erhältlich, und selbst das teuerste im Bunde, das M160 kostet im Laden keine 500 Euro.
Das M88 TG schaut aus wie ein Gesangsmikro. Der Mikrofonkorb ist nicht rund wie beim Shure SM58, sondern hat eine charakteristische Birnenform mit dem dicken Ende vorne/oben. Ein umlaufender Metallring trägt den Herstellerschriftzug in Weiß. Anders als bei den meisten Mikros lässt sich der Korb nicht abschrauben; im Servicefall kann durch Lösen
