By all accounts, I have the best collection of guitars I've ever owned. Playability, tone, neck profiles -- largely perfect. So why do I continue to be afflicted with GAS ? My oldest is headed off to college this month. I've written the first check. Yet here I am, browsing the AGF classifieds and my favorite retail shops regularly, trawling for the next gem. In the last 3 weeks, I've thought about a Hooper, D-28A 1937, Collings D1ATS, and more Merrills. Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. And the kicker is that if I buy one more, one HAS to go. And I don't really want to do that.
To combat the temptations, I've been playing a LOT the past several days, to the point where my fingers are a touch sore. And I've been rotating in every guitar I own to rekindle the love of why I bought them in the first place. It's helping. And I'm (re)discovering that they are all world class instruments. Not half, not most. ALL.

I'm a big proponent of appreciating what you have. Even though I don't think anyone is completely immune to GAS, I keep it under control using the joy I get from making music with my guitars. I have a few nice ones - not as nice as yours, perhaps, but nice enough. That's almost irrelevant, anyway. It's the music that makes me happy.

I am very appreciative of my small herd. I add to it very gingerly. I go out and play different guitars a lot. I'm confident that if and when I'm blessed to acquire another one it'll be a good choice. In the meanwhile I'm having a lot of fun trying them out.
Sweet, sweet collection, my friend. I try to stick to two…which means I have to sell one to get a new one. That caps the GAS a bit. Having some great guitars helps, too. But I’ve given up saying I’m done. The wandering eye knows no rest. But it would take a heck of a guitar to bump either of my current ones out of the house.

Epiphone Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Guitar Review
I have twins that start college this month. Well, one actually got 2 years of free college credit while in high school. He was accepted into a program coming out of 8th grade that allowed him to graduate high school with 2 years of free college credits while working toward a bachelor of computer science... software development. His degree will cost maybe $20k total. The girl is off to Loyola, and even with a great scholarship her degree will be more like $140k over the next 4 years.
That's what is keeping me from continuing the GAS cycle. I have enough, and I like what I have. That said, I still check FB marketplace every day or two for acoustic guitars... just in case...
I was asking myself the same question this morning while looking around in the classifieds. I wish I had an answer. I very much appreciate the guitars I have, but that doesn't seem to quell the search.

Looks like the two on the end had babies and spawned the other three, lol. Very nice collection. But seems to me you more or less have 5 of the same guitar. Might be better served changing it up, keep mom and dad and get one with a cutaway, maybe a 12 string?

Yes, nice collection! And, I can relate to your thoughts on this. I really appreciate them all (my wife would call it a big herd), and I was certainly one of those one in one out guys....that was two guitars ago! LOL! Might let one go this fall........but still trying to figure that out.
Aw, c'mon! owning five dreads is ridiculous ! (I only have three - used to have four!!), er, plus a 000, three 00s, and an 0.

With my two 12 strings three archtops, jumbo, Dobro, National and mandolin and, oh yes, the banjo, I'm struggling to think what I could get GAS for now! Sad ain't it?
Good thinking Brendan. It’s great to love the guitars you’ve worked so hard to collect. I think putting a cap on the collection with an in-out policy serves as an effective reality check.

I have a pretty modest collection but feel incredibly fortunate to have them all. Everyone of them is better than my skills.

The passion for the guitar is a compulsive disease just like the compulsive gambler, and the passion often outweighs the reason because the temptation is often too strong, but it is normal because it is the nature of the human. It's okay as long as it doesn't put you in financial trouble.
Lets see, i gave up salt, red meat, cheese, all fatty foods all in last 18 months. GAS is what keeps me sane i guess. Bought my youngest granddaughter (6 years old) a ukelele on friday at the git store...of course i got one, plus another case, a harmonica and a jupiter flute (cause it was shiny pretty)... then again today went yardsaling with Wife and a guy had a dirty olde classical there..offered him $10, he agreedWell anyone that follows my posts can pretty much figure I'm a Schertler fan, and a while back I bought a used (but like new) Jam 200 from forum member Pojack1. I bought it as a backup for my bigger Jam 400. Well it wasn't getting that much use, because frankly, I prefer the higher power of the Jam 400, as I like the extra headroom. But recently, another forum member posted about some acoustic guitars stores that were going out of business, and I checked out one of those online stores The Fretted Frog. And the Fretted Frog was closing out their remaining Schertler gear and they had a Schertler Side speaker, and a Schertler Bass-200 Sub-woofer for sale at a ridiculous price that I couldn't pass up. All of these amps are designed to work together, and boy, they work GREAT together. When I patched them all together I couldn't believe how loud the rig could get with excellent tone and seriously authoritative low-end, all without feedback. I've tried other subs with the Jam 200 but none of them ever coupled so well with it as the Bass 200 does, and having the Side speaker can really help with dispersion as all the cabinets have speaker pole mounts (I installed one on the Jam 200). The beauty of this modular system is that I can carry all three pieces with me in the car and use just enough of the system for the gigs I'm playing! The other great thing is as individual units the weight of the cabinets is totally reasonable. To get this much power into a single unit the thing would be way too heavy!!! And when I want to use it as a mini PA I can plug my QCS Touchmix 16 or Allen and Heath Zed 10 FX into it!
Congrats on that find. I play out a lot and use two Shertler David Deluxe amps on poles. Great stuff by Shertler for sure.

Well there's serious lowend in this rig, the bass is tight, and there's a crossover in the sub so I think that would be alright.First, thanks to those that chimed in about this pedal, and other options for getting a better tone from my UST pickup.
My guitar is a Gibson J29, with an LR Baggs Element. I run it into a Fishman Loudbox Performer amp, or a Mackie board with a pair of QSC K12's.
Playing for about an hour through the Fishman Loudbox at low (coffee house) volumes, this pedal does bring a miked airyness to the tone of the guitar. At full Aura, the quack is gone, and the tone is much fuller, bigger, and warmer. Much more '3d' if that makes sense. Dialed back to about 60% Aura, the tone is still quite good and feels like it would feed back less at bigger gig volumes. Switching the Aura off and on leads to a jarring tonal difference, for sure. The Element sounds a lot smaller and lifeless compared to the 'Aura-ed' tone.
An Amp For Busking.
My Gibson is a short-scale spruce topped guitar with rosewood back and sides and Gibson 1930's bracing with a mahogany neck, and rosewwod fretboard and saddle. Tusq nut and bridge. J45 Auras do not sound right - I'm guessing because of their mahogany back and sides - my guitar looks like a J45, but doesn't sound like one. The closest Aura image I found was using a Martin HD28 miked with a Neumann U47 (so far). J50 images were better than J45's for some reason, but the Martin still sounds more like my guitar. Threw a Guild in there for fun, but it sounds tinny with my setup
