Hey! I'm Charlie, 36 year old professional musician & guitar tutor from Kings Langley/Watford, Hertfordshire. I first picked up a guitar and started playing at the age of 5, and my love for playing, performing and for music in general has grown into a passion each day since. I have performed and gigged in several bands over the years (rock, acoustic, punk, metal & more), I own both acoustic & electric guitars and continue to write and play many of my own songs, always expanding on my knowledge.
With 18+ years experience in tutoring, I have taught all abilities and all ages (4+) - from beginners who haven't touched a guitar before to very advanced (and everything in between!) My approach is friendly, fun and easy going; I'm patient and always wanting to work at the pace of the individual. Since I have such a passion for music myself, I'm always experimenting and therefore always have new material to trial out with students - making lessons constantly fun and interesting.

I teach all ages across all abilities, from beginners to advanced players. During our sessions we will cover a range of genres and techniques, working together at your pace, with lessons structured around your aims and preferences. With all of my pupils I offer to test out their guitars to determine if they are suitable for learning on and I offer advice on which guitar to buy for themselves or their children based on their ability level, age and music genre interests. As well as ongoing chat via Whatsapp/phone call whenever the pupil wants or needs, such as advice on a new song they like and sending over chords, learning related tips or suggestions on a new guitar. I believe it’s really important that my pupils are learning music they actually love. So we always find a balance between practical learning and working on your favourite songs so that lessons are forever fun and interesting - whatever the genre! My home studio is based in Kings Langley and is available 6 days a week.David is one of the best tutors in Music Theory. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

Really informative and interesting workshop. David is a great teacher. Thanks for organising these events. - James (London Jazz Guitar Society member)
Great workshop highly recommended. David runs an informative well paced lesson, concentrating on often overlooked - and really useful - areas such as rhythmic awareness (including displacement and rhythmic independence) triads and their inversions over the whole neck. Including practical examples showing how to apply these skills in a clear and easy to remember way - Trevor (London Jazz Guitar Society member)

I have teaching hours available most days but students need to agree and book lessons in advance as I have a fairly busy schedule. Also I need to take the different time zones into account.
I teach from beginners to advanced. Generally beginner students need to already have some basic guitar technique but I´m very happy to accept students who are new to jazz and maybe come from a blues or rock background.
I mainly prepare students to be competent jazz guitarists who are confident and able to play with other musicians at jams and gigs, which is the most essential part of learning this music. I do also however prepare students for the DipLCM, ALCM, LLCM and FLCM jazz guitar diplomas,

Just Been Gifted This. Never Even Touched One Before. Where Do I Start?
I have many years experience as a teacher, however I am first and foremost a student of music. I always will be. There is no end to the path. The more you know the more you discover there is to know.
I believe the job of the teacher is to guide the student to finding the right path. The only difference between student and teacher is that the teacher is further along the path. There are many blind alleys along the way and a student can easily get lost and waste precious time. A good teacher helps the student stay on track and make the best progress possible. Most of the learning takes place outside the lesson in the student's own practice room so it is essential to know how to practise effectively.
Learning jazz guitar takes hard work and dedication. There are no short cuts but with the right guidance you can make noticeable improvements in a few months.
