Is Taylor Big Baby A Good Guitar

Is Taylor Big Baby A Good Guitar

The Big Baby Taylor has long been a popular choice for new learners and experienced players alike thanks to its combination of punchy tone and portability. A slightly scaled-down Dreadnought body with a narrower depth provides an accommodating feel whether you play seated or standing, and the slender neck offers comfortable fretting regardless of your skill level. With a solid spruce top for projection and built-in electronics with a digital tuner, the Big Baby Taylor is a great option for practice, travel, lessons and more. It ships with a lightweight gig bag.

Slightly bigger than a Baby Taylor but just shy of a full-size guitar, the TAYLOR Big Baby BBTe 15/16-size Dreadnought acoustic/electric is ideal for easy-playing, great-sounding guitar fun.

Big

The overall size keeps you in the “portable” category, yet with an extra dose of volume and fullness. Like the Baby, the Big Baby has an arched back that provides strength and contributes to its big tonal output.

Although layered wood guitars won’t yield quite the same level of tonal complexity as an all-solid guitar, at Taylor all are paired with a solid wood top to produce a rich, responsive voice that will continue to improve with time and extended play.

An outer layer of walnut is overlaid onto a poplar core (with a layer of sapele on the other side). The layering process also allows us to bend an arch into the back for extra strength and produces a durable that travels well.

ES-B electronics incorporates Taylor’s Expression System® 2 piezo design elements and features a multifunctional onboard preamp with a built-in digital chromatic tuner and active tone-shaping EQ control. T he preamp/tuner unit features an LED display for tuning and low battery indication, along with a Volume control and 3-band EQ. The preamp/tuner is powered by a 9v battery. With an alkaline battery, battery life expectancy when using the preamp only is over 500 hours, and when using the tuner is over 50 hours. Plugging in the guitar will activate the battery. A low battery indicator on the LED display (located on the preamp circuit board) will light up when the battery reaches 4.5 volts.

Well, Taylor's got two of them for you; the Taylor GS-Mini and Big Baby Acoustic! These two compact guitars are great for carrying around,  but feature slightly different qualities that may cater to different players. Scroll below for the full scoop on these two models from Taylor to see which one is right for you! Check out the side-by-side photos while you're at it!

The GS-Mini sports a rich, full voice despite its compact size. The Mini will impress you with its wealth of sustain without any muddiness. The sound is smooth, bright, and its all just as responsive as Taylor's bigger models. You'll be pleasantly surprised by what this lil' guy can do!

The BBT Big Baby features a Sitka spruce top that produces a broad dynamic range and accommodates a versatile range of playing styles. Being that its a 15/16-scale dreadnought (slightly larger than the GS-Mini), it also gives you a bit more volume and bottom-end.

Big Baby Series Guitars

The GS-Mini is ultra-portable, yet just as comfortable to cradle in the comfort of your home, making it the ultimate modern-day parlor guitar. The GS Mini features Taylor's patented neck that feels natural in your hand. Adjusting to the smaller scale length was no issue, and actually made playing single-note lines easier than on a standard scale.

The BBT Big Baby feels more like a standard-sized guitar than the GS-Mini, not only because of the body size, but it's scale length. With the GS-Mini you'll get 23 1/2, while the BBT Big Baby sports a more natural 25 1/2, making chord strumming feel more familiar. Neither guitars are intimidating in any regard, but folks who intend on using the guitar as their main instrument may opt for the BBT Big Baby.

The GS Mini may be small, but it is definitely not a toy. This compact powerhouse is also excellent for finger picking and strumming, and gives you all the volume you'll need at home or out at the beach. The size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. So, if you're looking for an ultra-portable guitar to have fun with, but with the feel and responsiveness of a standard size, the GS-Mini is right up your alley!

Sitting down with the BBT Big Baby, we found that there were no unbalanced notes anywhere on the neck. The frets are spaced as well, and the low string height and a super thin neck, make things really comfortable and easy to work with. Much like the GS-Mini, its also very light when resting on your lap and just small enough that you can sit with it in any position without becoming uncomfortable! If you're looking for a smaller-body acoustic for small gigs, the home studio, or practice sessions, the Taylor BBT Big Baby can fill those roles with ease!

Hold down the low end with Taylor's GS-Mini Bass! The sound of the bass comes from the condensed 23.5” scale length combined with the new custom nylon-core strings with a phosphor bronze wrap designed by D’Addario and used exclusively on this bass. The bass also has a patented dual-prong bridge pin design for a comfortable and slinky feel.
