Up for sale, a 1960s Ventura hollowbody electric guitar in excellent condition and in good working order. 100% original aside from one vintage replacement knob, this guitar is visually similar to the famed Univox Coily and sports the same staple pickups! These pickups are highly regarded among lovers of vintage Japanese guitars for their smooth, clear tone and balanced, articulate sound. The pickups have great harmonic content with your favorite fuzz pedal and both have strong output. This Ventura has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, strung with 10-46 strings, and setup for low, comfortable action.
As one of the many ES-335 style guitars to come out of Japan in the 1960s, this guitar matches Gibson specs for the era surprisingly well, with a 1 9/16 nut width and 24 3/4 scale length. The fairly slim C profile maple neck sports pearl block inlays and binding also in the spirit of an ES model, with the open book headstock shape that would become the catalyst for the famed Gibson Lawsuit in the 1970s. All Gibson similarities aside, this Ventura plays very well and the original frets have plenty of height and life left, with a bit more width than your typical Japanese fret of the era. The original sealed back tuners still turn smoothly and the Ventura logo on the face of the headstock is a clean gold silkscreen.

All of the electronics work as they should and all of the original hardware is intact with the exception of one replaced, era correct tone knob. The Tune-o-Matic style bridge has a Brazilian rosewood base, nylon saddles and retainer wire, just like the Gibson bridges of the era. The original position of bridge sticker is also still intact and visible beneath the bridge base as it currently sits (this sticker is usually the first thing to go on these guitars and a testament to how clean and well kept this particular Ventura is). The two-tone sunburst finish is vibrant and unfaded, with a few small scratches on the back and tiny dings around the body edges, but no serious wear of any kind.

Whilst effortlessly delivering the unmistakable classic chime and twang associated with this iconic design, the V72's lightweight chambered alder body acts as a natural acoustic soundbox, adding a noticeable low-end boost and warmth to chords and solo note runs. There’s also enough acoustic projection via the F-hole for unplugged couch noodling.
Hardware features that have made this semi-hollow model immensely popular with guitar players around the world include, a Wilkinson WTB Alnico Single Coil pickup at the bridge, the ideal choice to enhance the classic chime and jangle, whilst a Wilkinson WDG Ceramic Mini Double Coil in the neck position, is perfect to enhance the natural smooth warm, low-end frequencies as the strings resonate through the chambered body.

Featuring the Wilkinson WTB bridge this classic 3-saddle design has been around for over 50 years and is still regarded as the ultimate tone machine. Staggered brass saddles offer individual string intonation, never before available in a design of this type. The baseplate itself is a faithful reproduction of the original, made from steel, very important in a bridge of this style due to the tonal effect it has on the magnetic field of the pickup mounted in it.
